IABR Rising Star Award

The IABR Rising Star Award

The IABR Rising Star Award was established in 2025 by the International Association of Breath Research (IABR) to recognize early-career researchers who have made significant contributions to the field of breath research. The award celebrates individuals who demonstrate exceptional talent, leadership, and promise, setting new standards of excellence and innovation at an early stage in their professional journeys.

Award Eligibility

The award is designed for researchers who have firmly committed to advancing breath science and display a clear trajectory toward becoming future leaders in the community. Eligible candidates must meet the following baseline requirements:

  • Academic Degrees: Nominees must hold a PhD or MSc (or equivalent).
  • Professional Experience: Candidates must have worked a minimum of three years in the breath field, but possess no more than eight years of post-degree experience in breath research.

Selection Process

The winner of the award is chosen directly by the IABR Board. Following the close of the submission period, the Board reviews all eligible applications using a structured evaluation rubric. Nominees are evaluated based on:

  • The scientific impact and academic rigor of their publication, presentation, and patent record in breath and breath-adjacent fields.
  • Their success in securing competitive grants and fellowships as a Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI).
  • Their long-term trajectory and potential to make a significant future contribution to breath research.
  • The breadth and value of their contributions to the breath research community, the broader academic or industrial field, and beyond.

Nomination Guidelines

Nominations are open to all active IABR members.

Notification: Members will receive an official email announcement containing the formal call for nominees ahead of the annual Breath Summit.

Submission process: Submissions must include a one-page nomination letter (maximum 500 words) outlining the nominee’s key contributions, such as significant publications, patents, fellowships, and other impactful achievements. Self-nominations are accepted.

The Board finalizes the selection ahead of the annual Breath Summit, where the winner is officially announced and celebrated by the global community.
